The pitch
In Season 5, Episode 4, Bassem Okasha asked for EGP 2 million for 25%, which values ProTile at EGP 8 million. He said the Shaq El-Thoban stone district produces about 2 million tonnes of solid waste a year, and that fewer than 5% of Egyptian buildings are insulated. After 24 years in marble and granite, 14 of them abroad, he built a prototype two years ago, joined a UNDP programme and won the Tatweer Misr competition in June. ProTile launched in May and has sold EGP 1.2 million; he is aiming for EGP 7 million in 2026 and EGP 80 million a year by 2027–28. He prices it at EGP 2,000 to 3,000 per square metre installed, against at least EGP 4,500 for a natural stone facade on a steel frame, with net margins of 20–25%. The sharks spent a long stretch working through installation costs, and one shark said developers in Egypt need to rethink facade materials because of maintenance costs. Mohamed Farouk offered an investment for 40% equity plus a 2% royalty, along with a production line at his stone factory and help reaching consultants. The transcript does not capture the investment amount. A five-year royalty period was discussed, followed by a proposal to shorten it to two and a half years. Abdallah Sallam offered to trial the product in a project, while saying he could not commit to an equity investment yet. The closing exchange suggests Bassem intended to proceed with Farouk, but does not clearly establish acceptance or the final terms, so the outcome remains unconfirmed.
