Polygon EV

Overview

Polygon EV is an electric vehicle charging company in New Cairo. Its Manta charger supplies up to 22 kW of AC power for homes and businesses. It can go on a wall or stand, indoors or outside. Drivers can use the PolygonEV app over Bluetooth to check charging and adjust the current. The company also provides charging solutions for residential communities, offices and fleets.

The pitch

In Season 5, Episode 3, Mostafa El-Ghandour asked for EGP 1.5 million for 10%, which values Polygon EV at EGP 15 million. He said the idea came while he was researching an electric car for himself and found that most owners need a home charger, and that the imported ones were either cheap and unsupported or branded and expensive. The first Manta prototype cost about EGP 20,000 to build, and a European Union grant helped turn it into a product. He put sales at more than EGP 5 million in 14 months, through electric-car showrooms, property developers and direct orders, and said the circuit boards are the company's own design, with assembly done in Egypt. On air he quoted about EGP 24,500 for the 7 kW Manta and EGP 29,500 for the 22 kW model. Abdallah Sallam said he has one installed at home. The sharks pressed him on pricing against Chinese imports and on what the company sells beyond assembly, and none of them invested; he left without a deal. Paymob gave the company its Golden Ticket award in the episode.
